Cutting edge classical
This short concert is a 'taster menu’ of contrasting styles and energies from leading new music ensemble Stroma. It includes two works for vocalising flutist (by Toru Takemitsu and Michael Norris), gorgeous duos with percussion (by Wellington composers Salina Fisher and Gareth Farr), plus an exciting tribute to Greek composer Iannis Xenakis, whose 100th anniversary was in May. Stroma is an artistic team combining musicians at the highest standards of excellence in New Zealand. It is committed to engaging audiences with the music of living composers. At the core of this team lies the creative brilliance of composer Michael Norris and conductor Hamish McKeich, whose leadership during the past 20 years has produced innovative programmes unique to New Zealand and introduced audiences to new ideas from the global musical community. Bridget Douglas - flute, Anna van der Zee - violin, Ken Ichinose - cello, Thomas Guldborg - percussion
