In 2022, The Hillbillies emerged victorious at the Central Regional Finals of the prestigious NZCT Chamber Music Contest, captivating audiences with their mesmerising renditions of Alfred Hill's work. Their exceptional performance propelled them to the national final in Auckland, where they were honoured with the coveted award for the best performance of a New Zealand work. Building on their triumph, The Hillbillies have once again secured their place as one of the country's top eight groups in 2023. Prepare to be enraptured as they grace the stage at the national final in Christchurch, performing timeless masterpieces by Beethoven and Schulhoff. The ‘Beethoven String Quartet’ is actually a trio who will not be performing Beethoven. Featuring Zachary Thirkell on clarinet, Sarah Artmann on cello and Quentin Stark on piano, they will be performing the slow and expressive Adagio movement from Johannes Brahms' Trio in A Minor. Zachary, Sarah and Quentin are local secondary school students from Wellington College, Rapahel House Rudolf Steiner School, and Rongotai College respectively, who have been enjoying playing classical music together since 2018.
