Briar Prastiti x Moth Quartet Original
A collection of guitar and vocal songs written by Briar Prastiti under the alias of Twinn Ethyr, accompanied by special arrangements by Moth Quartet. Briar draws on folkloric, melancholy and ethereal themes in her guitar playing and lyric content. Many of these songs are deeply personal, using narrative as a way of making sense of difficult emotions and experiences over the years. Similar to the way that folklore uses storytelling and symbolism to teach us life lessons, Twinn Ethyr uses emotive harmony and poetic imagery to give strong impressions that lend to a freedom of interpretation. Briar will sing one of her songs 'White Red Black' with Orchestra Wellington later this year. Bio: Briar is a multi-faceted composer and performer based in Wellington. She is the current NZSM Composer in Residence and lives at the Douglas Lilburn residence. She has a background in film music, electronic music production, and vocal performance in a wide array of styles, particularly Greek music of which she has heritage, Balkan music and Singer Songwriter. Some of her works this year include commissions of original music for Prima Facie (Circa Theatre), Orchestra Wellington, and the Bay of Plenty Symphonia. She is currently working on two debut albums for different genres, one of which is Twinn Ethyr, as heard in her Classical on Cuba performance with Moth Quartet.

Coming Together by Frederic Rzewski Speak Boldly
Coming Together by Frederic Rzewski. Coming Together is built on the words of two prisoners involved in riots at New York's Attica Prison in 1971. First, the poetic and enigmatic letters of Sam Melville, a radical activist imprisoned for protest bombings. Melville was a leader of the riots, and was shot and died during them. Then, the words of civil rights activist Richard X. Clarke. On his release, Clarke was asked what he would do now with Attica behind him. His response: "Attica is in front of me." The heavy subject is expressed over a beautiful bass line, coloured in by the rest of the instruments. Featuring: Local hero Jonny Marks of The All Seeing Hand, known best as a throat singer; Members of Orchestra Wellington; Other stalwarts of the thriving local gigging scene

Workers Union by Louis Andriessen Speak Boldly
Workers Union is sort of a melody "for loud instruments" to play together. The melody is rhythmically strict and exciting, and a contour is given, but no actual notes. This is the spirit of punk, and the sound of an unruly mob of school kids chanting at triple speed for better working conditions. Featuring members of Orchestra Wellington and Wellington's thriving exploratory music underground
